Project Apex is a two-storey, multi-functional gym in Azuela Cove, Davao City, carved from an existing 7-meter-high shell. Rather than compressing the volume, the design exploits its height stacking programs vertically to maximize use while preserving openness and visual continuity. Within 450 sqm, the space is engineered to feel expansive, legible, and efficient.
The architectural language is intentionally futuristic, defined by stainless steel surfaces, dark metal finishes, and controlled linear lighting. Light operates as an organizing element directing movement, establishing hierarchy, and structuring circulation across both floors. Entry begins with a deliberate, illuminated sequence that sets a forward-looking tone, leading into high-intensity and upper-body training zones on the ground floor. The second level is dedicated to lower-body and multi-functional training, integrating sled tracks, open workout zones, and a mirrored yoga and Zumba studio. A separate posing room provides athletes with privacy and focus.
Support spaces including lockers, showers, sauna, and recovery areas are consolidated on the lower level, carefully planned with gender-separated facilities and an inclusive all-gender powder room. The core challenge was transforming a compact footprint into a high-capacity gym without sacrificing comfort or clarity. Through precise planning, vertical zoning, and disciplined spatial arrangement, Project Apex demonstrates how architecture can resolve constraint and elevate performance.
